Kevin McCourt

Kevin McCourt (born Scotland, 1964) is an interdisciplinary artist. He lives and works in Madrid.

McCourt explores relations between differentiated approaches to understanding and visualising social complexity as a creative phenomenon. His collaborative practice research empirically and theoretically explores links between creative process, scientific research, contemporary art debates and the wider social context. Outcomes include installations, interventions, social events, web pages, video and film works and theoretical texts.

McCourt's internationally exhibited works include: Barrio Mestizo / Barrio Castizo, which focuses on the recent phenomenon of mass immigration to Madrid; Padres Maridos Hijos / Fathers Husbands Sons (in collaboration with graphic designer Gabriel Martínez), a documentary portrait of abused women, combining image, manipulated sound (recorded from interviews) and typography; Deadwood (War), a visual poem (video) which plays with the possible multiple meanings of the word "deadwood" in English and Conversation (between friends), a series of works in a wide variety of media, including drawing, soundworks, installation and performance, which address themes related to communication within and across cultures.

He has taught in university faculties / art schools and given conferences in Britain, Spain, Japan, Mexico and Germany.
